  • seiðr, pronounced “say-th” or “say-thr”, is a Nordic folk magic practice based in trance meditation and relational animism. it is often described as “shamanism”, but i have hang-ups around that term, which is often used to equate cultural practices with little in common.

i’ve been studying seidr since 2020 and it is a large part of my spiritual practice.

disclaimer: my spiritual practices are rooted in Heathenry, which has become associated with racist “folkish” Heathens. i deeply abhor the use of religion to excuse bigotry, and do not associate myself with fashy shitstains like that. i am a queer, trans, disabled, diasporic POC; i am very aware of the ways religious spaces can uphold imperialism, and dedicate my time to opposing it.

for resources on antifascist Heathenry, i recommend: The Fellowship of Fire and Ice and its reading list (https://www.onblackwings.com/books-resources), Hyldr’s publications and Mimisbrunnr (https://www.mimisbrunnr.info/), and Cat Heath’s writings and workshops. Danica Boyce is a good resource on animism and sung magic.
